Qualcomm has announced the next generation of its smartphone fast charging system – Quick Charge 3 Plus. The company is promising faster charging speeds and cheaper cost of the tech. Here’s what you need to know about Quick Charge 3+.
Qualcomm Quick Charge 3 Plus Details
With 5G phones being more taxing on today’s smartphone batteries than LTE counterparts, we need better battery tech going forward. Not just heftier batteries, but also charging systems that can top batteries up fast. Sure, flagship phones have pretty impressive fast charging tech, but mid-range and lower-end smartphones rarely feature similar tech. In an attempt to bridge this gap, Qualcomm has unveiled Quick Charge 3 Plus today, aimed towards the affordable and mid-range smartphones.
Qualcomm says Quick Charge 3+ can swiftly charge a battery up from 0% to 50% in just 15 minutes. This makes it 35% faster than it’s predecessor (QC3). While improving the charging speed, Qualcomm has also managed to keep the temperatures of the charger lower by 9 degrees Celsius. Quick Charge 3 Plus chargers shall deliver 60W of power (20V at 3A).
Qualcomm Quick Charge 3+ Support & Compatibility
QC3+ shall be made available first on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765 and 765G chipsets. The first phone to support this new tech is the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite Zoom. The phone, in fact, also supports Quick Charge 4 Plus.
Quick Charge 4 Plus is mostly geared at upper-mid-range and high-end devices and is only available with USB Type C to USB Type C cables, but as stated above, Quick Charge 3 Plus is aimed at mid-range and lower-mid-range devices. Quick Charge 3 Plus will be served via the current industry-standard USB-A to USB-C cables. This compatibility means the tech can be used in affordable devices, as USB-A cables/connectors are cheaper.
Quick Charge 3 Plus shall also support scalable voltage with 20mV steps from Quick Charge 4 Plus. The tech is also backward compatible with previous generations, meaning a wide range of existing accessories will be supported.
