The wait is over… Or, is it? Well, the September 26th OnePlus India event is definitely over, and we have the OnePlus 7T, OnePlus TV, and some exciting updates and announcements. Here’s everything you need to know about the new devices and important announcements.

OnePlus 7T Specs & Price

The most awaited announcement of today’s event was the OnePlus 7T. Starting with the internals, the device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ SoC, coupled with 8 Gigs of on-board RAM. The 855+ features a new Kryo core that goes up to 2.96 GHz, and the GPU goes up to 675 MHz. This gives the phone’s SoC a 15% raw upgrade over the Snapdragon 855. There are 128 and 256 Gigs of UFS 3.0 internal storage variants to choose from.

The biggest upgrade on the phone, however, sits at the rear. There’s now a big clunky circular camera housing that houses three sensors and an LED flash. OnePlus have gone with a 48MP f/1.6 Sony IMX586 sensor, accompanied by a 12MP telephoto camera capable of 2x optical zoom and a 16MP 117-degree ultra-wide camera.

This setup might seem very similar to the 7 Pro’s, but the 7T’s higher resolution telephoto sensor lacks OIS and only goes only 2x close (the 8MP sensor on the 7 Pro can go 3x), and it also features a new macro mode that can help you click crispy close-up photos. There’s Nightscape, 960fps 720p slo-mo, 4K video recording from the ultra-wide camera, improved portrait mode, and improvements to the camera UI to finish things up.

Coming to the front, the 7T gets on the fluid-display train with a 90Hz 20:9 OLED 6.55″ panel. This is a flat (not curved) FHD+ panel with narrow bezels, support for HDR10+ and a peak brightness of 1,000 nits (higher than the 7 Pro’s 800 nits). There’s a fingerprint sensor under the display and a small water-drop notch at the top with a 16 MP f/2.0 selfie shooter.

Talking more about the internals, the 7T boasts a stereo speaker setup, new and improved stereo haptic motors (for better vibration feedback) & dual-SIM support. It isn’t 5G ready but does have other connectivity options like Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5, GPS, and NFC. The 7T will be the first phone in the world to ship with Android 10 out of the box, below the new updated Oxygen OS (more on it in the next section below).

All of this is powered by a 3,800 mAh cell (up from the 7’s 3,700 mAh) with support for a 23% faster Warp Charge. Say hello to Warp Charge 30T, which, thanks to better hardware chemistry and physics, can now charge the 7T from 0 to 70% in just 30 minutes while keeping the phone cool. This is even faster than Warp Charge on the 7 Pro.

The 7T will come in a slightly glossier Frosted Silver and Glacier Blue color options, secured with 3D Gorilla glass. It’s priced at INR 37,999 (~ USD 530) and 39,999 (~ USD 560) for the 128 Gigs and 256 Gigs storage variants respectively. The phone shall go on sale in India from the 28th of September via Amazon India and OnePlus’s official web-store. It’s slated to launch later in the US on the 18th of October alongside the 7T Pro, and in Europe soon after.

OxygenOS based on Android 10

With the new OxygenOS built on Android 10, OnePlus is adding some neat India-exclusive tricks into their custom skin. Here are some notable ones:

  • The shelf (zeroth page of the OnePlus homescreen launcher) will now show cricket scores, just like Google feed does.
  • OnePlus Gallery is now smarter. It shall recognize and categorize photos based on faces, things, locations, and more. All of this will be done offline. This is also similar to what Google Photos does.
  • ‘OnePlus Cloud’ will give users free 5 Gigs of cloud storage for life for photos and videos along with additional 50 Gigs for free for the first year. Only for new smartphone purchases.
  • The stock SMS app shall now categorize messages into folders like primary, transactional, promotions, etc., similar to what third party SMS apps on the Play Store do. It will also feature new contextual one-tap actions for stuff like OTPs and tickets.
  • OxygenOS features a new Work-Life Balance mode, which will put apps on the homescreen depending on whether you’re at work or at home.

There also will be under-the-hood changes and optimizations for memory and battery management.

OnePlus TV Specs & Price

We knew this was coming, thanks to the plethora of leaks and rumors surrounding the same. OnePlus takes a step out of the smartphone ecosystem and launches a lineup of smart TVs, called OnePlus TV. At today’s event, the company introduced us to a couple of TVs: the TV 55 Q1, and TV 55 Q1 Pro.

Starting with hardware, both the models are equipped with 55″ 4K (3840 x 2160) QLED (Samsung) panels with Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG. There’s an anti-glare coating on the display.

The only real hardware difference between the two models is the presence of 8 speakers on the Q1 Pro, while the Q1 only has 4. The Pro model packs a motorized soundbar at the bottom of the TV which houses 8 speakers (2 woofers, 4 full-range drivers, and 2 tweeters). Rated at a total output of 50W on both the models, the speakers have support for Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS-HD.

For software, the TVs run on Android TV 9 along with customizations from OnePlus. There’s a new app called OxygenPlay, which is a content service that includes content from providers like Hungama Play, Zee5, and Eros Now. There’s support for Chromecast and also Google Assistant, which can be interacted with handsfree through the remote of the TV.

Talking of the remote, it features the usual navigation buttons along with an assistant button, an OxygenPlay button, volume sliders on the right, and an Amazon Prime Video hotkey (the last one, which is blank in the image above). It’s worth noting that the TVs don’t support Netflix yet, but OnePlus has assured that the support is coming soon.

Oh, and there’s this new OnePlus Connect companion app that can be used on phones to control the OnePlus TV. It can play content on OxygenPlay, cast media from the phone on the TV, etc. Other features like TypeSync (type into the TV with the phone) and Smart Volume Control (automatic volume adjustment on phone calls) are also packed into the companion app.

The TVs feature a carbon-fiber finish at the back, VESA mounts, multiple I/O ports, and a steel stand. You can check the official website for the complete list of specs. In simple terms, the TVs do look good on paper. If anything, we expected the prices to be a bit more aggressive, but it is what it is, which is INR 69,900 (~ USD 980) and INR 99,900 (~ USD 1400) for the Q1 and Q1 Pro respectively.

Bullets Wireless 2 Now In Green

Also slipped in between the big launches was a new Olive Green paint job for the OnePlus Bullets Wireless 2. The earbuds were launched earlier this year alongside the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro for $99 and were only available in black. The price remains the same, and the new Olive Green color shall be available in all markets starting the first week of October.

OnePlus Pay Coming Next Year

OnePlus also announced OnePlus Pay, which is OnePlus’s wireless tap-&-go payments system, similar to Google Pay and Samsung Pay. The service is under development and shall debut next year, probably with the OnePlus 8 series.

OnePlus Upgrade Plan For India

OnePlus 7T & OnePlus TV Launched; Specs, Prices & Everything Else You Need To Know! 9

Finally, finally, OnePlus is bringing its exclusive trade-in/upgrade plans to India. This means, existing OnePlus smartphone owners can upgrade to the latest OnePlus phones while saving big by trading-in their old phones. The exchange rates are better than any other re-commerce portal in India for now. This facility shall be available on the OnePlus Care app shortly, and more details on the program shall be announced soon. Keep checking regularly, we’ll update this section as we have more details flowing in.

That’s pretty much it.
